CHESSBD walkthru - ICS telnet window
The ICS telnet window is in normally in the upper right hand corner.
It consists of 3 parts:
-
The telnet textport.
You can issue raw server commands by clicking on the telnet
textport and typing.
-
The chat textport.
Shouts, tells, kibitzes, etc, go in the chat textport.
You can type directly in the chat textport.
Whatever you type will be sent to the server, prefixed
with the currently selected chat prefix (see below).
Nothing is sent until you type <return>.
For example, if the current chat prefix is "tell chopper",
and you type "hello" (followed by <return>),
then the effect is to send "tell chopper hello" to the server.
-
The chat prefix and chat input line.
Typing in the chat input line has the same effect as typing in
the chat textport. The currently selected chat prefix is prepended.
Nothing is sent until you type .
You can change the chat prefix by clicking on the chat prefix
box and then typing the new prefix; or by clicking on the down-arrow
in the chat prefix box and selecting from the list.
In order to make it easy to respond to chats,
the chat prefix list contains a response entry for each user
who did a shout, kibitz, or tell that appeared in the chat textport.
The list can become unwieldy, though.
So you can choose more focused list by clicking the
mini-button.
The short list contains response entries for users who
have talked to you, rather than shouting. Therefore it's
easier to find the response entry you are looking for.
You can toggle back and forth between the two lists
by clicking the mini-button.
