CHESSBD walkthru - observing
-
To begin observing a game,
find out who's playing.
Click the
button in the ICS arena.
This will fill the "who listbox".
Players who are playing will appear in the listing
with a caret (^) to the left of their name.
To observe a player, click on the corresponding line.
This will pop up a bank of buttons.
Click the "obs" button.
A new board window will appear showing the moves of the
game as they occur.
-
To stop observing a game,
just close the observation board window.
-
In general,
even though there is no menu bar in the observation window
(as there is in the main ICS board window),
all the keyboard accelerators in the Board sub-menu
are available in the observation window.
Eg, Alt+B to flip the board, Alt+3 to create a viewer.
-
To flip the observation board,
click it and then type Alt+B.
-
To load the moves of a game,
click on the observation board and type Alt+< (Alt-lessthan)
This will pop up a query asking for a server command.
Enter the server command that will send the moves
of the game in question.
For example, to load the moves of a game in progress, say, game 37,
type "moves 37".
To load the moves of a game from someone's history, say Dogman's
history game 15, type "smoves Dogman 15".
-
There is an easier way to examine a game from someone's history
(or journal).
-
Select User|gamedlg.
-
Enter the name of the person in the "opponent" box.
-
Click the "history" (or "journal") button.
-
Double-click on the game you want.
This will create a new board window, with a viewer,
and with the moves pre-loaded for you.
You can scroll thru the game, and move the pieces locally,
without going thru the server.
